Job Description

Job Summary: The Legal Assistant position provides technical and paraprofessional legal support to the MetLife Auto & Home Law Department.

Job Requirements

Principal Responsibilities: Perform legal research, including on-line searches, pursuant to specific direction and/or instruction by an attorney. Analyze statutes, cases and regulations and summarize information for attorneys.

Other duties may include:
Perform factual research (e.g. excerpting information from files, compiling data, on-line searches, etc.). An! alyze findings and prepare summaries.
Respond to requests ! for information by external examiners, business clients, government agencies and regulatory authorities.
Prepare various corporate documents and assist with Insurance Department filings.
Assist attorneys with policy complaints, compliance inquiries, litigation/settlement matters, project management and reporting.
Assist in responding to tax levies, garnishments, proxies, court orders and subpoenas regarding agents and policyholders.
Update and maintain various Law Department portals and databases.
Gather and organize information into various reports and databases as directed.
Other legal assistant tasks/projects as may be determined by the needs of the Law Department.

Experience Required

College Degree or Legal Assistant Certificate preferred
Paralegal/legal secretarial work experience preferred
Experience with a law firm or in the insurance or financial services field is desirable
Highly collaborative partner with the a! bility to work as a team player and mutually support, and work effectively with, individuals at all levels of an organization
Demonstrated ability to discreetly handle sensitive and confidential information
Proficiency in using computers, including Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, NILS, Word, Excel and Power Point
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to draft well-written correspondence
Strong organizational, research and analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects and prioritize assignments within specified time frames
Must be detail oriented, well organized and have excellent time management skills
Some overtime will be required.
