Bus MonitorGeneral Description of DutiesUnder the direct supervision of the Superintendent/Designee, the purpose of the position is to perform district-based duties associated with the functions n! ecessary for the transportation of students. Bus monitors may also be used in a temporary assignment to include the transportation of those with various degrees of disabilities. Employees in this position must function at an experienced level equal or greater to those required as described in the Johnston Public Schools Transportation Training and Reference Manual. Minimum Education/Training Experience/License Requirements*High School Diploma or GED with additional education/credentials as may be required for this position.

Maintain discipline and safety.Environmental ConditionsEnvironmental conditions are a means of describing the physical surroundings of a worker for their job requirements. The environmental conditions of a bus monitor are frequent exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, wind or any other adverse condition caused! by weather.TemperamentsTemperaments are defined as personal t! raits required by a worker.Ability to deal with students with various degrees of personalities and possible disabilities.Ability to deal with parents.Physical DemandsPhysical demands are a way of describing the physical activities required to perform the requirements of the position. Strength: Lifting Pulling Climbing: Consistent ascending and descending school bus stairs.Balancing: Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching or running on narrow, slippery surfaces unassisted by persons or device.Stooping: Bending the body downward and forward by bending at the spine at the waist.Crouching: Bending the legs at the knees to come to rest on the knee or knees.Reaching: Extending the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand or hands.
