Connecting for Children & FamiliesGenerations of Learning AmeriCorps ProgramService Year â"September 16, 2013 to August 15, 2014Connecting for Children & Families (CCF) seeks 8 pa! rt-time or full time AmeriCorps Members, ages 55+, who will work in Woonsocket, RI with 250 K-5 students both during the school day, as well as in CCF's after-school programs, providing tutoring and enrichment programs to reinforce classroom instruction and improve school performance. Members will also work with students during vacation weeks and during the summer to address the high incidence of "summer learning loss" typical in high poverty, urban communities such as Woonsocket. AmeriCorps Generations of Learning members will work at Kevin K. Coleman Elementary.
Connecting for Children & Families is a community-based nonprofit organization operating in the neighborhood where the targeted schools of this AmeriCorps program are located. CCF's mission has always been to improve the quality of family and community life in Woonsocket by providing a wide range of family support programs that are strength-based, preventative, and closely tied to academic success as a wa! y out of poverty.Generations of Learning member responsibiliti! es will include: â¢Develop and implement curriculum for afterschool, school vacation weeks, and summer programs at Kevin K. Coleman Elementary Schoolâ¢Assist classroom teachers to reinforce and teach math and literacy skills to students during the school day in grades K-3 at Kevin K. Coleman Elementary Schoolâ¢Plan and participate in family engagement events to be held at the schoolâ¢Attend all pre-service and weekly trainingsâ¢Attend Justice Talks â" a civic reflection series with other RI Corps membersâ¢Maintain attendance for programs, submit timesheets, monthly reports and evaluation data on a regular basisâ¢Participate in all Serve RI AmeriCorps events AmeriCorps part-time and full time Generations of Learning members will: â¢Serve full-time completing 1700 hours of service or serve part-time completing 900 hours of service from September 16, 2013 to August 15, 2014â¢Must be at least 55 years oldâ¢Preference will be given to candidates who have a college deg! ree or college coursework in education or related subjectâ¢Be a U.S.
Citizen, U.S. National or Permanent Resident and provide documentation of citizenshipâ¢Complete a state criminal background check, FBI background check, Attorney General BCI check, CANTS clearance through DCYF and Identity and Citizenship Verification Process â¢Have a strong interest and passion for teaching or tutoring in a community â¢Have reliable transportation to their service site(s)â¢Have experience in a school or afterschool setting â¢The ability to speak Spanish is a plus, since many youth are from Spanish-speaking families. Two weeks of skill development training plus weekly feedback and reflection sessions will support the memberâs professional growth as well as the success of their studentsâ experiences.
