DUTIES:
! Senior Case Technicians provide legal and technical support to Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) and other technical/professional positions in the processing of claims filed under the provisions of the Social Security Act and are responsible for developing and processing a request for hearing case from its receipt in the office to its completion, independently performing a wide range of case development actions. Assignments consist of processing more complex hearing cases where analysis of pertinent issues and interpretation of the provisions of the laws, regulations, rulings, precedents, policies, procedures and guidelines relative to the cases is necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Position being filled at the GS-8 level.
You must
currently hold
a permanent GS-8 or higher level position in the Federal ! Service or have
previously held
a GS-8 position and have 52 weeks for Specialized Experience.
Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and which is typically in or related to the duties of the position to be filled. Such experience requires the ability to review and process a variety of legal and/or medical documentation, records and evidence in accordance with applicable rules & regulations; communicate with a wide variety of individuals in order to provide advice/guidance about medical or legal claims, hearings process, insurance claims, or other related programs; Interpret complex laws, rules or regulations and written guidelines & explain the provisions to others; use a computer to prepare correspondence ! and experience using word processing software (i.e., Word, Access, Exce! l) for data input, queries, reports or case tracking;
OR
successful completion of one full year of graduate education in a field that is directly related to the position (i.e., law and legal studies).

For GS-8:
Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal Service which demonstrates the ability to interpret, apply and explain legal provisions, regulations or procedural requirements to a wide range of individuals with varying abilities of comprehension and a knowledge of legal documents or legal and judicial processess.

3 - Best Qualified Category - Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and demonstrate a high level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Candidates eligible for veterans' preference will be placed ahead of other candidates in the appropriate category for which they have been rated. Additionally, preference eligibles who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent and who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements will automatically be placed in the Best Qualified Category.
ICTAP candidates who meet the requirements for the Well Qualified category will be placed at the top of the Best Qualified category and be given selection pri! ority.
